A Winter Wonderland Wedding

Is it really Spring? I don't know about you but here in North Carolina we are seeing snow again. So in the spirit of another snow day I thought I would reminisce on one of our snow weddings back in December.

It was December 9th. We remember it well at ABBA Design because we had 3 weddings that day. It began snowing Friday night and continued into Saturday. We weren't sure how easy it would be getting to Triple J Manor House in Mocksville, NC but we knew we had to. It was our very own Lead Wedding Coordinator's wedding day. Sydney's dream had always been to have a white wedding, so this day was magical.

The vision for this wedding was winter wonderland with a touch of Christmas. So we took the more "icey" wintery look and ran with it. Her colors were dusty blue, pale pink, deep red, and LOTS of greenery.

One of our favorite designs for this wedding was the ceremony backdrop. Sydney told us she needed some sort of arbor for the ceremony since it would be inside a blank space room. She gave us free reign to design something special for this piece. And I have to say I was extremely excited about how it turned out. We built what looked like a free standing floral arch covered in greens and variations of reds, pale pinks, blues and whites.

The windows in the background really brought the whole ceremony backdrop together beautifully. We completed the ceremony space with lights and greenery wrapping the stair railing that Sydney walked down.

We pulled this design straight into the bouquets and boutonnieres. Sydney wanted her bouquet to be a little wild and broad. Of course working for ABBA, she loves flowers and wanted something that would really stand out.

These colors all came together perfectly. The snow entirely completed the winter wonderland theme. In this space, we had to tackle a complete "flip." In about 45 minutes we had to transform this beautiful ceremony space into a reception. While guests waited for this to happen, they mingled outside on the wrap around porch. I know what you are thinking, "Wasn't it too cold?" or "How can a porch fit 150 people?" This porch was HUGE, but just the right size to keep everyone close enough and warm. And we of course had a few large heaters and warm beverages.

Just in time, we finished off the reception space. It was no easy task, but our ABBA team went in full design mode and got it done. The variation of round and farm tables created a beautiful overall look. We especially loved the head table. With the small round sweetheart table in the middle and farm tables on both sides, we made this design a statement.

We used the ceremony backdrop as the sweetheart table backdrop which turned out perfect.

We then lined the farm tables with overhead greenery pieces. On each side they ended up being about 6 feet long.

For guests tables we did a variation of greenery, floral arrangements and candles.

And we can't forget the dessert tables that we added touches of floral and green to. They looked SO tasty, but we wanted to add a little pretty. In the windows behind the donut and hot cocoa bars, we hung small simple greenery wreaths finished off with red ribbon.

We had so much fun designing and decorating for this wedding. Sydney told us everything turned out exactly how she imagined. And even better than she imagined with the snow falling in the background. We love what we do at ABBA Design and days like this are special.... designing for someone close to our hearts.

Congratulations Matt and Sydney! And best wishes in Washington, DC!

Huge thank you to all vendors involved in this wedding!
